Along a Shore

All of my sculptures are made from rocks gathered along the shores of Lake Champlain. Lake Champlain lies between Vermont and New York and is the 6th largest fresh water lake in the United States.

Lake Champlain is home to a rich variety of rocks.  The bedrock of southern Isle La Motte in Lake Champlain consists of a 450-million-year-old fossil reef and this reef is the oldest reef in the world where corals first appeared.  This ancient reef is a National Natural Landmark and is protected in two preserves in Isle La Motte.

To find out more about the geology of Lake Champlain and to help preserve its rock record – please visit the Isle La Motte Preservation Trust.
